Live Facial Recognition |
||
|
Yesterday afternoon I took part in a Live Facial Recognition (LFR) operation outside Clapham Junction station with several other officers from Lavender Hill Police Station. The LFR cameras were focused on a specific area and when people passed through that area their images were streamed directly to the Live Facial Recognition system and compared to a watchlist that was prepared that morning. The technology can be used in a number of ways by the Met, including to prevent and detect crime, find wanted criminals, safeguard vulnerable people, and to protect people from harm. I arrested a 50 year old Male from Chiswick who the LFR system recognised was wanted for failing to appear at Court, and also on suspicion of committing a robbery in the Waterloo area in February. He has now been charged with one count of robbery and will appear at Magistrates Court tomorrow. My thanks for their help go to PCSOs Adrian, Tony and Jabraan. You can read more about our use of Facial Recognition technology on the Met Police website https://www.met.police.uk/police-forces/metropolitan-police/areas/about-us/about-the-met/facial-recognition-technology/
